If you think that your child may have ADHD, Autism or a learning disability, a psychological evaluation is the best way to find out. If your child has already had a school evaluation or seen a medical professional, I will delve deeper into all areas of their functioning to give you additional information.
A psychological evaluation is a tool to gather detailed information about your child’s strengths and weaknesses and how they learn best. A typical evaluation includes intelligence, attention and learning, memory, language, academic achievement and social-emotional functioning. My goal is to obtain a complete picture of your child beyond “the numbers.” At the same time, I try to streamline the process, so as to not “over-test,” or overwhelm your child.
In addition, I work very hard to make sure that my evaluations are fun for children. I will get to know your child and support them through the process. The tests that I use are designed for young children and have lots of pictures and hands-on materials. We take lots of breaks and play games, do arts and crafts or jump around in my large play room. Snacks, stickers and rewards also help children stay motivated and engaged.
After testing, you will receive a detailed report with recommendations. Though some psychological jargon is unavoidable, I strive to make my reports clear and succinct. I’ll review it with you in detail and am available to speak to your child’s school or other professionals.
